Lockdown 2.0: Supporting Independents – Coleshill Special

Well folks, it’s that time again. 2020 and COVID-19 continue to strike a blow to hospitality with another lockdown. For someone like me, that loves to a) eat and drink, and b) support local businesses, it’s time to get creative once more. As a huge fan of the Birmingham independent food and drink scene I will be checking out lockdown delivery and collection guides from Independent Birmingham and Bite Your Brum. But what about closer to home? Here’s a handy guide to local independents in Coleshill and the surrounding areas offering takeaway food and other treats throughout this November.

Please remember that travel should be limited to your local area under current government guidelines. So as tempting as some of these may be, please don’t travel unnecessarily if you’re outside the area. If you are collecting food, remember “hands, face, space” and keep everyone safe xxx

Cafe On The Hill

This popular cafe is a hub of the community, and has adapted once more to lockdown. They are now open for takeaway drinks, breakfast and lunch from 9am-3pm. Pre-order by phone or via Facebook Messenger, pay online and pop in and say hi to Dale and Tina. They’re also offering a “Dish of The Day” hot meal for collection or local delivery. The popular celebration afternoon tea is also returning. Find out more at the Cafe on The Hill Facebook Page.

Carlicious Catering (pop-up at various venues)

I love a bit of street food. And Carlton and the team are popping up in a pub car park near you with takeaway burgers and tacos. Pre-orders available via, or just turn up on the day. To find out more about their weekly whereabouts, check out their Facebook page.

Church End Brewery

They may have had to close the doors to their taproom but Church End Brewery‘s beer shop is open Thursday-Monday! Click and collect, call 01827 713 080 to book your time slot

Coleshill Country Market

Unable to locate themselves in the Parish Rooms as usual, Coleshill Country Market are launching a DIY Christmas hamper. Purchase a basket and it can be filled with the goodies usually found at the market, from baked goods to preserves, crafts and even winter woollies! I’ve heard rumours that Christmas Cake may also be involved. For further information, please contact Janet ( or Sue (

Handmade Pizza Co at The Railway

Fancy a pizza? Then get yourself to this pop up pizza place at The Railway in Whitacre Heath this Saturday afternoon. Pre orders and pre payment preferred, for more info email Collection and local deliveries available.

Olivia’s Kitchen

Olivia’s Kitchen has an extensive menu which includes wraps, sandwiches, burgers and poke bowls. There are also milkshakes, smoothies and waffles if you have a sweet tooth. Available for collection or for local delivery, you can place your order here.

Really Awesome Coffee

Working from home means you don’t get the chance to hang around the office kitchen, having a gossip, waiting for the kettle to boil. So why not create a new ritual and get your coffee (or tea) fix delivered to your door? Check out Really Awesome Coffee on Facebook

Red Lion Coleshill

Red Lion are offering a Click and Collect service Thursday-Saturday with burgers, pizza and a selection of sharers/side orders. Drinks are also available. You can find a full menu on their Facebook page, as well as details of how to place your order.

Sweet Things

Got a sweet tooth? Love all things chewy, gooey or fizzy? Coleshill’s traditional sweetie shop Sweet Things has gone online! I definitely have my eye on the Bumper Bananas and Super Shrimps, a staple of my pic-n-mix bags when I were just a wee girl… You can find their online store here.

The Bubble Inn, Furnace End

Craving a fish and chip supper somewhere in the heart of lockdown 1.0 we discovered we could click and collect from The Bubble Inn. And now they’ve announced a weekend collection and local delivery service from Friday 13th November. There will be burgers, pizzas and kebabs available, and even a Sunday roast option. You can pre-order by phone or by Facebook Messenger; find out more details on their Facebook page.

The Gate

If you’re hankering after proper homecooked pub grub, then The Gate has you covered. Pre-orders only via Facebook or text 07456 438716, you can find up-to-date menus here.

Whitacre Hall Tea Rooms

A little bit further out, but worth the drive, Whitacre Hall’s tearooms will be open for takeout during lockdown. The country walks are the perfect place to stretch your legs (£1 admission per adult, 50p for kiddies), get a bit of fresh air and then indulge in a slice of cake or two. Which is precisely what we did last weekend. You can find out more here.

Pond surrounded by trees
Whitacre Hall

This is not an exhaustive list but if there’s a local independent offering a click and collect, delivery or takeaway service that deserves a shout out then please let me know in the comments!

Please note that this blog post is not sponsored – independent businesses need your support now more than ever. If you afford to support them, please do but just shouting out about their offering on social media or to your friends will make a huge difference to their chances of survival.

Why you should shop independent this Christmas – and at other times too!

And of course, you can’t do a blog post about Coleshill without mentioning our plethora of curry houses. Most will be continuing their normal delivery service throughout lockdown so check in with your favourite!

I hope you are managing okay back in lockdown Em! It sounds like you have some seriously fabulous options for delivery/take away dining! 😀

Always searching for somewhere new to try! And since moving into the area we’ve mainly been in lockdown so the more collection/delivery options I can find the better. Lockdown not that much different for us both to be honest as we both work from home – just means we don’t really get a break from our four walls! Or each other 😉

I’m such a big advocate of shopping with small businesses! There’s lots of info about what’s available in the cities so it’s nice to be able to focus on my immediate area for a change.

Yeah, that is only thing I am worried about. It’s so hard not seeing other friends and family. I am very thankful for the antics of our cat at the moment to stop things getting too dull! 😀
