Dough & Brew, Warwick – More Than Just Pizza

AD | INVITE* Since moving out of Birmingham I’ve been eager to explore more of what Warwickshire has to offer. So I jumped at the chance to join a small group of Warwickshire foodies to eat our way through the menu at Warwick’s Dough & Brew.

Located on a quiet street just behind Warwick’s market place, it would be easy to miss Dough & Brew if you choose a more well-trodden route through town to the iconic castle. But it is worth making the detour down Brook Street to find this friendly independent restaurant, with its inviting rustic exterior.

Dough & Brew have quietly been making waves in the pizza world since 2016, and it is the warm glow of the pizza oven that greets you as soon as you enter. Yet Dough & Brew is so much more than pizza. Everything owner John Martin and his team turn their hands to turns to food gold.

Pan fried salmon dripping with maple and sesame on a rainbow coloured bed of stir-fried veg. Golden Welsh rarebit toasties – a twist on that lunchtime staple cheese-on-toast. Juicy buttermilk fried chicken, oozing with flavour. Mammoth sandos, chockful of katsu chicken, halloumi or roaster butternut squash. Pillowy flatbread stuffed with lamb shwarma and chimmichurri. The list goes on and on – you can check out the full menu here.

And of course, there’s the pizza. Sourdough base. Neapolitan style. Cooked to perfection in that centrepiece wood-fired oven. It’s no wonder Dough & Brew has won award after award for their pizza.

The pizzas are all neatly paired into iconic couples – Brad & Angelina, Mork & Mindy, René & Yvette. But make sure you check out the Specials menu too, currently featuring The Hoff – four cheeses on a white base with house maple syrup – and the Lord & Lady Ponsonby – asparagus, rocket, runny egg and hollandaise sauce, with either parma ham or mushrooms.

Rumours abound of a secret menu too. If you want to try out that cheese and marmite pizza, then you’ll have to ask.

The beauty of Dough & Brew is that it’s not just somewhere to grab fast food. A lunchtime coffee and a quick bite. An after work social event. Date night. Brunch with your mates. A solo treat. Cocktails and craft beer. Breakfast to stave off the cocktail and craft beer hangover.

For the non-drinkers or the drivers there is a well thought out offering of low- and no-alcohol beverages. My Teenstar Martini mocktail even came with a teeny tiny shot of lemonade.

John proudly takes us through the newest offerings on the menu as well as old favourites. We all have lots of fun trying out the 3D Augmented Reality codes on the menu, which allows you to virtually view your selected dish from all angles. Apparently this feature minimises the number of “how big is 12 inches?” questions, and thus reduces the temptation to give a smutty answer. I still had mine loaded up the next morning, which meant it looked like I was eating a pizza feast in bed.

You can find Dough & Brew on Brook Street, Warwick CV34 4BL. Reservations are recommended to guarantee you a table – after all, you wouldn’t want to miss out would you? Reserve your table at Dough & Brew. It’s dog-friendly too, so you can even take your pooch along. Thank you to John and team for the hospitality, and to the lovely Ellen of Eat with Ellen/Empr for the invite. I can’t wait to return soon with Mr Fletche in tow.
