Out and About in Brum: March 2016
The first weekend of March saw the return of the Seasonal Markets at The Bond in Digbeth. A bit different from normal, this was a Night and Day Market taking place on the Saturday evening and Sunday daytime. Usually these events are a couple of quid, pay on the day, but this one was a little more expensive and tickets could be purchased in advance. We took advantage of the Independent Birmingham members offer and purchased weekend tickets for two for £20.
As always, the street food selection was top notch; this time around we tried Andy’s Low & Slow for the first time with Mr Fletche having the chilli brisket, and I went for the pulled pork. Well have to try those pig cheek tacos sometime! Later on we decided to share a second course from Thai food specialists and former Masterchef finalist Buddha Belly… love their crispy chicken! We met up with friends, and between them we covered every food stall, with their choices including savouries from Baked in Brick and Caribou Poutine, and dessert from The Bourneville Waffle Company.
Whilst we sat freezing our butts off in the slightly sheltered courtyard, we could hear great music playing from inside. And eventually to warm up a little we decided to join the crowds inside and have a dance. And dance we did, to the fantastic Norman Jay. One of my favourite things about these events is the diverse crowd. Every single person there was out for a fun night, with no trouble, and that shared philosophy was evident more than any differences between people. Mr Fletche in particular enjoyed his time on the dance floor and threw himself into the dancefloor festivities with vigour…
The next seasonal market is the Spring Market on 16th April, £2 entry, families welcome (and I hear rumours that the bus bar might be back?).
