A Brummie Home and Abroad’s Top 10 Posts of 2022

December’s a great chance to look back on some of my favourite posts from the year. It’s also an opportunity for you, dear reader, to catch up with a post you may have missed, or to revisit an old favourite! I’ve split my Top 10 Posts of 2022 into two categories: My 5 Most Read Posts of 2022, and my 5 Most Read New Posts of 2022. I’ve even added my Top 5 Most read Theatre Reviews as a bonus.

As always, I love comments so please feel free to let me know what post you’ve enjoyed most in 2022!

5 most-read A Brummie Home and Abroad posts in 2022

No 5: Costa Rica Grand Tour: What to Pack?

Dipping your toe into long-haul travel again? Is Costa Rica on your travel wishlist? Readers of A Brummie Home and Abroad wanted to know what they should pack. This post covers the activities of the TUI Costa Rica two week Grand Tour, and suggestions of what to wear each day. Damp conditions feature heavily.

No 4: 50 (ish) Things To Do in Birmingham City Centre

It’s been wonderful to see this post do so well again in 2022. Birmingham saw an influx of visitors in 2022 thanks to the Commonwealth Games so hopefully some readers found some useful things to see and do in Birmingham thanks to this post. With so many new places springing up in Birmingham all the time, I’ll make sure that this post is refreshed for 2023!

No 3: What happened to Weymouth? The Decline of a Favourite Seaside Town

As people continued to seek UK holiday hotspots in 2022, this tongue-in-cheek look at an old seaside favourite has had a resurgence of readers this year. I muse on childhood holiday camp holidays, remember an impressive pub crawl of 11 pubs and share a fuzzy photo of me being blown around Portland Bill. All of which I’m sure has contributed to this post’s popularity.

No 2: 10 Travel-Related “Would You Rather” Questions

Moving to No 2 after being my my most popular post for the past two years running, A Brummie Home and Abroad readers still like to ponder those very important questions. Like “Would you rather travel the world for a year on a shoestring budget, or travel for one month in complete luxury?” And “Would you rather sit next to a chatterbox on a plane, or a crying baby?”

No 1: Top 8 Places to visit with a Rental Car in Tenerife

Returning to the top spot in 2022, this has been a staple in my top 10 most popular blog posts for a few years now. It covers some of the wonderful places you can visit with a rental car in Tenerife. But just in case you don’t have a car, there’s info about travelling on public transport too! You’re welcome.

No 5: Our Stay at the Proteas Blu Resort, Samos

Foreign travel was back baby! The Greek islands are our go-to for a sunshine break, and this was our first visit to Samos. We deserved a little adults-only luxury for our first European holiday in two and a half years.

No 4: Hotel Review: No 11 Brunswick Street, Edinburgh

In April Mr Fletche celebrated not only a big birthday but the first birthday not in some sort of lockdown since 2019. So we headed up to Edinburgh for a couple of nights. We stayed in this lovely hotel, with pretty amazing breakfasts!

No 3: A Peter Pan Afternoon Tea at Aqua Shard

There’s no shortage of special afternoon teas in London but the Thames views and fairytale theme made this one my pick to celebrate Ma and Pa Lee’s golden wedding anniversary

No 2: A Love Letter to Birmingham (The Commonwealth Version)

Brum gets a lot of flak at times, but is also fiercely defended by others. This was my love letter to the city, inspired by the energy and colour brought by the Commonwealth Games. Let’s face it, Birmingham’s not perfect but it’s home – flaws and all.

No 1: Things to Do With Grown-Up Parents in London

There are loads of “Things to do with kids in London” posts out there. But what if the kids are big kids? And what if the big kids are taking even bigger kids to the capital? This post already brings back a lot of fab memories – Ma Lee may be responsible for this one topping the new posts of 2022 chart 😄
