A tale of two cities, a train walk of shame and sampling more Brussels beer…
When Mr Fletche suggested Brussels as an Easter/birthday getaway, I confess that I wasn’t overly enthused. What’s in Brussels, I asked? Home of the European Parliament, where they sit around discussing how much bend should be in our bananas? Sprouts (a vegetable that would certainly be consigned to my Room 101)? Tintin and his dog? A little boy peeing into a fountain? Instead, I was more than pleasantly surprised by what this vibrant and cosmopolitan city had to offer. Dull, grey and bureaucratic? Most definitely not…
“Mr Fletche and I spend 10 minutes admiring the maze of cobbled streets and quaint buildings housing hotels, shops and restaurants; and 30 minutes admiring a beer overlooking the lake”.
Growing up, Ma Lee’s dream had always been to visit Austria. Like a wish-granting genie, faster than Ma Lee could rustle up lederhosen from a pair of curtains, flights and hotels were booked for a September jaunt to Salzburg. And of course, we couldn’t let two travel novices like Ma and Pa Lee travel alone could we?
What are your travel habits? And which ones will you try and break in 2016?
